News of Note
Instagram had a week filled with innovative updates. Firstly, the channel is adding a new feature that will tally video view counts, eliminating a major blind spot for brands. According to Mashable, the platform is following in Facebook’s footsteps by aiming to “make the platform more hospitable to video ads.” Instagram will count one video view as at least three seconds watched, an attainable goal as the videos play automatically. This feature came soon after Instagram announced that video ads will now have a maximum length of 60 seconds, as opposed to 30 seconds. Instagram stated, “We recognize that advertisers have a variety of creative resources and want to bring more choice to help them reach their business goals.” Finally, Instagram is rolling out a two-factor authentication program to help prevent user and brand accounts from being hacked. Users can opt for a temporary code to be texted to them as a second step in the login process, after signing in with a password. This update will increase security now that users have the ability to access multiple accounts from the same device.
