Herbal Essences Hosts the Ultimate Torture Test

This week, MMC invited a group of media influencers to put the smoothing benefits of Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner to the ultimate torture test. Media attendees were treated to a scalp massage to experience the shampoo and conditioner followed by a touchably smooth blowout that was immediately exposed to summer’s humidity to bring the built-in smoothing serum benefits to life. While outdoors, attendees indulged in “infused” cocktails and light bites – inspired by the conditioner’s infused smoothing serum – while Herbal Essences celebrity stylist Charles Baker Strahan discussed the science behind the products and styling tricks to keep their styles smooth, despite the humidity.

With the Twitterverse buzzing about the experience, it’s clear the attendees’ styles passed the torture test! Media influencers from outlets including Allure, Cosmo.com, Beauty Blitz and Beauty and the Feast tweeted that they were “doing the Herbal,” sharing their smooth styles with followers.

My Big Debut

You learned from my last post that I am not one to book regular salon visits to get my hair cut, or trimmed for that matter.  I am thrilled to share the news that on Thursday, March 25th I overcame my fear and not only got a trim but got my hair colored and styled as well!

The Aussie and Clairol teams celebrated the warm weather and kicked off the spring season with a Spring Trend online influencer event.  Myself along with my fellow MMC’ers Lisa Reindl and Jess Spano had a tough job that evening to be the hair models donning the latest spring hair trends.  Naturally, I was hesitant to undergo a hair transformation for my critical role, but all of my doubts disappeared once I discovered that my hair was in the hands of miracle workers: Aussie celebrity stylist, Sarah Potempa, and Clairol’s Global Director of Color and Style, Marcy Cona.

After a quick color application using Clairol Perfect 10 and a few spritzes of Aussie hair spray to complete the look, I was ready to model “The Modern Remix of ‘Old Hollywood’ Brunette”.  Here are three quick and easy steps to get the look:

  1. Using a styling pick (or a household item like a pencil or a chopstick) follow the line from the middle of your nose to get a clean middle part.
  2. Then spray Aussie’s Hi-Hold + Hi-Shine Hairspray to each 2” section.
  3. Curl away from the face on both sides.

NOTE: The key to getting a great vintage-inspired wave is to follow a pattern and make each curl identical.  Clip each section with a small silver clip to allow the hair to cool before releasing.

High profile beauty online influencers attended the event and created buzz in the Twitter world using the hashtag “#PGHair” that was designed specifically for attendees to comment on the evening’s activities in real time.  Many of these influencers had flip cams in hand as well to capture the demonstrations for their blogs.

I have to say, with my hair freshly cut and colored I feel refreshed for spring!  It looks like Sarah and Marcy may have changed my outlook on frequent salon visits.  Stay tuned…

A Hair Care AAE Faces Her Biggest Fear

This past weekend I did something that I rarely ever do. After months of putting it off and numerous nightmares about the results, I finally faced the fact that it was time to get a haircut. It may seem like I’m being a little dramatic, but keep in mind this is my hair I’m talking about.

People close to me know “it’s all about the hair.” Nothing makes me happier or more excited than a good hair day and trying new product on my locks. I plan my daily schedule around my hair routine which never fails to include my trusted blow dryer and flat iron that transforms my naturally wavy hair in to a sleek, straight mane. With all of this prep work, it’s no wonder I end up with those dreaded dead ends that inevitably send me to the salon chair. Given my hair obsession, you would think I love these frequent salon visits, but after a few haircuts gone wrong and some questionable highlights, the thought of seeing my stylist is enough to make me cringe.

When I said I got a haircut this past weekend I should have been a little more specific. A haircut to me is taking off an inch or less. I am most satisfied when my “haircut” goes unnoticed with as little difference between the before and after as possible. You can only imagine how thrilled I was when my closest friends failed to acknowledge my “new ‘do.”

After recently landing my dream job at MMC doing PR for popular P&G hair care brands, beautiful hair is a must! It looks like I’ll be facing my fears and visiting that salon chair more often.
