MMC and Client Kimberly Clark, P&G and Novo Nordisk Take Home PRSA Big Apple Awards
MMC, Procter & Gamble, Novo Nordisk and Kimberly Clark were big winners last night at the PRSA Big Apple Awards honoring their work for U by Kotex, the Novo Nordisk Insulin franchise and Head & Shoulders.
U by Kotex won a Big Apple Award for a program that showed millennials that U by Kotex is not your mother’s menstrual protection by being culturally disruptive and consistently innovative. The Declaration of Real Talk campaign inspired millennials to drop the code, metaphors and girly language about vaginal health and promoted social change. The program generated major traditional and social media coverage and drove women to action in purchase decisions and on the website.
Head & Shoulders was awarded Honorable Mention in the Integrated Communications: Consumer Products & Services category or its “Polamalooza” program that showed how to get men to embrace a product they only know as a dandruff shampoo and transform it into a pop culture hero, while driving trial and a billion plus media impressions. Working with NFL All-Pro Safety Troy Polamalu, Head & Shoulders and MMC created an integrated extravaganza, which grew market share by 5%. Head & Shoulders’ status as a pop culture phenomenon was solidified when Troy’s hair, courtesy of H&S, became one of 2010’s top Halloween costumes and Guinness World Records recognized Troy’s hair and H&S as the “highest insured hair” ever.
Novo Nordisk (NNI) was awarded Honorable Mention in the Marketing Consumer Products: Healthcare category for its “Race with Insulin” program, which raised awareness of the NNI insulin portfolio, (specifically, Levemir® and NovoLog®), and the prefilled insulin pen FlexPen®. Working with Charlie Kimball, the first licensed driver with type 1 diabetes to ever race in the IndyCar Series, NNI and MMC were able to promote Charlie’s inspiring story while integrating branded NNI product mentions into his discussion of race preparation. Through traditional and social media (Charlie’s Twitter page, Race with Insulin™ was the first pharmaceutical branded Twitter page) Charlie drove awareness of NNI products and proved that diabetes doesn’t have to “slow you down.”

The tally is in… the MMC for a Cause Annual Bake Sale raised $605 for the Food Bank of New York. That’s $151 more than last year! Are MMCers baking better or just eating more?
This money will help the Food Bank provide approximately 3,000 meals! We would like to thank Davinia Buckley, Special Projects Assistant, from the Food Bank who came to serve as an impartial judge and even helped man the table during the hectic first hour.
We also like to thank Cathy Fitzpatrick for organizing the tasty event, the MMC bakers, table attendants and building neighbors (including the local fire and policemen) who ate and donated!
And now, I’m incredibly proud to announce the MMC Bake-Off winners. I can assure you no judges were bribed. Drum Roll, please…
Brownies and Bars: Sarah Pfeiffer, Chocolate Mascarpone Bars
Cookies: Marissa Festante, Oreo Truffles
Cakes, Cupcakes, Breads and Muffins: Cathy Fitzpatrick, Samoa Cupcakes
Miscellaneous: Rachel Lenore, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie
Comments heard from the building lobby crowd included, “Here’s my bowl. I’m back for seconds of that peach-blueberry cobbler.” “Wow this Bourbon Cake smells like I will have a good afternoon” and finally “I’ll only allow myself one cupcake but keep the change for the Food Bank. Treats and giving back, what a great idea!”
What a fun and filling day!
For the first time in a decade I will be in New York City for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I’m already so excited and thankful.
My extended family relocated to Texas many years ago and we’ve been flying down for the holiday ever since. Thanksgiving in Dallas is amazing. My two Uncles and cousins host a TEXAS size weekend full of over-the-top meals, competitive family games, movie night and Black Friday shopping. The exhibits during this time of year are great, the warm weather is perfect, and the bargain shopping in Texas is fantastic for our New York contingent. The deals we find on heavy winter wear are unbelievable!
My Mom, sister and I have decided to try something new and stay local this year. We are creating a new family tradition. We have planned Thanksgiving dinner at my sister’s apartment, in an attempt to relieve my Mom from working too hard. But, we realized most of the dishes on our menu would taste so much better if Mom made them. So, I guess she will be working hard in the kitchen after all. My sister and I will also cook and I’m sure it will be a great meal.
Here’s our menu:
Stuffed Cornish Hens
Arroz con Pollo
Pasteles
Butter nut squash soup
Orzo stuffed Peppers
Spinach and ground Turkey Lasagna
Cranberry Sauce
Potato Salad
Baked Macaroni and Cheese
A plethora of Vegetables
Desserts
Although I will miss my Texas family, staying in Brooklyn has given me a new reason to be thankful this year. I hope you enjoy the holiday planning, cooking and eating with friends and family!
On my way into MMC today, I noticed the first yellow tree on Third Avenue. I was overcome with a sense of anticipation. I can feel a charge in the crisp, cool and clear air. Everything seems cleaner, brighter and more vibrant. I can’t wait until each tree leaf is a different shade of orange, yellow, green and red. It’s as if fall doesn’t know winter is coming.
While everyone else enjoys “Spring Cleaning,” I love preparing my home for the upcoming winter. Changing my wardrobe to boots and light jackets, unpacking blankets and warm linens, stocking up on exotic teas and baked goods, all make my home nice and cozy. Don’t get me wrong I love summer dresses, but by the time the fall comes around I’m ready for the change. This blast of fresh air seems like such a reward after a hazy, hot and humid NYC summer.
Are you inspired by fall?
It’s amazing how one small move can create a huge change in the way I think. I just moved out of my studio into a one bedroom apartment. I only moved one mile, but having an extra room and new surroundings is really exciting.
The decorating options are endless. Just choosing a paint color for the walls has been a HUGE challenge. Neutral or bold, an accent wall or the entire apartment
I can go on and on about my options. I have added at least eight pounds to my bag just carrying around paint samples. I invite my friends over to my empty apartment to discuss color palettes. Even asking the opinion of my creative coworkers at MMC has narrowed my options down only a tad. I’m afraid of choosing the wrong color.
Finally, last night my good friend and Sorority sister told me, “It’s just a wall. Don’t over think it. We can always repaint if you don’t like. Be a little daring.” This made me feel so much better. Don’t over think
Be a little daring. Surprisingly, I’ve never done that before. It has taken a new apartment filled with colorful possibilities to help me think big. Here’s to new beginnings!
